Founder
Nathaniel Sugerman founded Providence Metallizing Company in 1951 with a singular vision: to provide innovation of finishing to customers' parts that would result in genuine value added to their products. Starting in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, just over the Providence line, Nathaniel and his team of engineers created and adapted equipment to produce fine jewelry finishes for the region's growing costume jewelry industry. His pioneering spirit led to the development of innovative finishes such as 'Quartz' and 'Aurora Borealis' that could not be replicated with standard polishing and plating techniques. Nathaniel's commitment to combining art and science in finishing processes established the foundation for what would become a 200,000+ square foot operation serving industries from cosmetics to hi-tech electronics. His legacy of innovation over imitation continues to guide the company's approach to advanced PVD coating technologies.
2nd Generation Owner and Finishing Expert
Richard Sugerman carries forward his father's mission as the second-generation owner and finishing expert at Providence Metallizing Company. Under Richard's leadership, PMC has forged a unique path by combining art and science in a high-volume manufacturing environment that no other finishing company has taken. He has overseen the expansion into advanced PVD methods including titanium nitride, zirconium nitride, and titanium carbo nitride coatings using magnetron sputtering and reactive arc deposition technologies. Richard established PMC as the only reputable domestic source for the cosmetic industry over 20 years ago, earning approved supplier status with global players including Estée Lauder, L'Oreal, Avon, and Elizabeth Arden. His commitment to fast turnaround and excellence in customer service has enabled PMC to move parts from sampling to production in half the normal industry lead times while maintaining jewelry-quality standards at industrial scale.
TiN coating costs depend on several key factors: substrate material and size, part complexity and geometry, order volume and frequency, surface preparation requirements, coating thickness specifications, and required turnaround time. Engineering-grade plastics like Ultem, nylon, and LCP may require specialized pretreatment, affecting pricing. Our high-volume capabilities allow us to offer significant discounts for larger production runs, and we provide free sampling services for most applications so you can evaluate the finish quality before committing to full production. Our transparent pricing reflects over 60 years of PVD expertise and includes all necessary pre-treatment and quality control steps.
Our finishing experts will provide detailed pricing based on your specific requirements.
