Two generations of coating innovation and excellence.
Founder
Nathaniel Sugerman founded Providence Metallizing Company in 1951 with one simple yet powerful goal: to provide innovation of finishing to customers' parts, resulting in value added to their products. His vision transformed a small Rhode Island operation into a finishing powerhouse. Starting with fine jewelry finishes for the growing costume jewelry industry, Nathaniel pioneered techniques that created breakthrough aesthetic effects like Quartz and Aurora Borealis finishes. His commitment to combining artistry with technical precision laid the foundation for what would become over 60 years of industry leadership. Under his guidance, the company expanded from jewelry into trophy, novelty, lamp, and lighting industries, always staying ahead of market needs through continuous innovation and equipment adaptation.
2nd Generation Owner and Finishing Expert
Richard Sugerman carries forward his father's mission as the second-generation owner and finishing expert at Providence Metallizing Company. By combining art and science in a high-volume production environment, Richard has forged a path not taken by any other finishing company. Under his leadership, PMC has pioneered advanced coating technologies including UV topcoat systems for the cosmetic industry and sophisticated PVD methods for hi-tech applications. Richard's expertise spans the full spectrum of modern finishing—from delicate cosmetic packaging to rugged industrial components. His commitment to innovation over imitation has established PMC as the only reputable domestic source for cosmetic finishing over the past 20+ years. Richard continues to push boundaries, recently expanding capabilities into glass metallizing and developing proprietary abrasion-resistant formulations that set new industry standards for durability and aesthetics.
Scratch resistant coatings are specialized protective finishes applied to surfaces to prevent abrasion, scuffing, and wear damage. These coatings use advanced chemistries—such as UV-cured polymers or PVD-deposited hard materials like Titanium Nitride—to create a durable barrier that maintains aesthetic appearance and functional integrity. They're engineered to withstand the mechanical stresses of packaging, assembly, shipping, and consumer handling while preserving the underlying finish, whether metallic, painted, or decorative.
Our finishing specialists can recommend the optimal abrasion resistant solution for your specific requirements.
