Meet The Providence Metallizing Team

Two generations of finishing innovation and expertise

Nathaniel Sugerman

Founder

Nathaniel Sugerman founded Providence Metallizing Company in 1951 with a singular vision: to provide innovation of finishing to customers' parts, resulting in value added to their products. Starting in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, Nathaniel and his team of engineers created and adapted equipment to produce fine jewelry finishes for the burgeoning costume jewelry industry in the area. His pioneering spirit led to the development of innovative finishes such as 'Quartz' and 'Aurora Borealis' that could not be replicated with standard polishing and plating techniques. Under his leadership, the company expanded from jewelry into the trophy and novelty business, then the lamp and lighting industry, growing to over 200,000 square feet of working space. Nathaniel's commitment to combining art and science in finishing established the foundation for PMC's reputation for fast turnaround, highest quality, and excellence in customer service that continues today.

Richard Sugerman

2nd Generation Owner and Finishing Expert

Richard Sugerman carries forward the mission established by his father, Nathaniel, as the second-generation owner and finishing expert at Providence Metallizing Company. By combining art and science in a high-volume manufacturing environment, Richard has forged a path not taken by any other finishing company, focusing on innovation rather than imitation. Under his leadership, PMC introduced advanced UV coating systems for the cosmetic industry over 20 years ago and established the company as an approved supplier for global players including Estée Lauder, L'Oréal, Avon, and Elizabeth Arden. Richard has expanded the company's capabilities into glass bottle metallizing and coating while maintaining the jewelry-quality standards that define PMC. His expertise in finishing technology and commitment to customer service has enabled PMC to achieve remarkable recognition, including the 2011 Finish of the Year award for the Viva La Juicy Bottle for Elizabeth Arden. Richard continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in mirror finish polishing, metallizing, and decorative coating applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you polish steel to a mirror finish?

Yes, we specialize in polishing steel to a brilliant mirror finish using our advanced automatic high polishing systems. Our three-step process combines precision polishing with electroplating or metallizing methods to achieve flawless, highly reflective surfaces on steel components. We can process deep drawn steel parts, machined steel pieces, and cast steel with consistent jewelry-quality results. For enhanced durability and appearance, we often combine steel polishing with decorative chrome plating, nickel finishes, or protective UV topcoats depending on your application requirements and environmental exposure conditions.
